The American Gold Eagle coins were first released by the United States Mint in 1986. United States Mint American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins and are available in limited mintages both Proof and Uncirculated in four sizes, one ounce, one half ounce, one quarter ounce, and one tenth ounce.
The American Gold Eagle coins obverse side has a version of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of the Walking Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch, flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. Augustus Saint-Gaudens design was used on the US $20 Double Eagle gold coins from 1907 thru 1933.
American Eagle One Ounce Gold Proof Coin is packaged in a blue velvet, satin lined presentation case and accompanied by a custom-designed Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint.
