In 1971 about 6.8 million 1971-S Eisenhower silver clad dollars were struck in Brilliant Uncirculated, according to the Coin World 2006 Guide to U.S. Coins. Another 4.3 million Proof versions were struck. During the next few years of the Eisenhower dollar's short run, much smaller mintages of silver clad versions were struck. Mintage totals reflect about 2.2 million BU 1972-S coins and 1.8 million Proof examples, with 1.8 million BU and 1 million Proof 1973-S Eisenhower dollars struck.
Mintages for the 1974-S Eisenhower silver clad dollars rose in 1974, to 1.9 million BU coins and 1.3 million Proof examples. 1974 was the last year for the regular Eisenhower design offered in silver clad, before the 1776-1976 Bicentennial coinage was introduced in 1975 and 1976. Eight Eisenhower silver-clad dollars comprising four years of issues in both BU and Proof versions are needed for your 40 percent silver coinage set.
