The Franklin Mint issued Sterling Silver Coins of Birds known as Roberts Birds. Gilroy Roberts created many coins such as the Kennedy half dollar, and medals for the mint, including a series of coins for the British Virgin Islands and the popular set of medals depicting birds. Franklin Mint Sterling Silver Coins of Birds first five medals were released in 1970. The Bird coins #6 thru 25 were released in 1971. Coins #26 - #30 came out in 1972 with the next 5 each year totaling 50 Sterling Silver bird coins by 1976.
Each coin is Sterling Silver and is marked on the side. The coins weigh approximately 3.30 ounces each encased in a plastic capsule; with a sterling silver weight of 2.30 ounces. The coin is 2 inches in diameter.
